Bengaluru: The web hosting company GoDaddy Inc announced on Monday that the email addresses of up to 1.2 million active and inactive Managed WordPress customers had been exposed to unauthorized access by third parties.

The company said the incident was discovered on November 17 and the third party accessed the system with a compromised password.

“We detected suspicious activity in our managed WordPress hosting environment and, with the help of an IT forensics firm, immediately opened an investigation and contacted law enforcement,” said Demetrius Comes, chief information security officer, in a file.

The company, whose shares fell about 1.6% in early trading, said it immediately blocked the unauthorized third party and an investigation is ongoing.
