2018 God of War goes to PC in January. The game will be released on January 14th via Steam, Sony has announced.

“Our main goal in bringing God of War to PC was to highlight the exceptional content the team created and leverage the platform’s powerful hardware to create a uniquely stunning and powerful version of the game,” said Grace Orlady from Sony Santa Monica. “You can enjoy the full potential of our cinematic camera without editing as it follows Kratos and Atreus through the world, with the option of true 4K resolution, on supported devices and unlocked frame rates.”

God of War for PC includes a “large selection of graphical presets”. Gamers with a sufficiently powerful PC can expect better resolution shadows and improved screen reflections. There is also support for ambient occlusion through GTAO and SSDO.

The game also features “full integration” with Nvidia’s Deep Learning Super Sampling (DLSS) while it also supports Nvidia Reflex for better latency. God of War for PC will also include support for 21: 9 ultra-wide screens, along with keyboard mapping and “rugged controller support” for DualShock, DualSense, and other supported gamepads.

However, the full system requirements for God of War on PC have not yet been announced the Steam page mentions that 80 GB is required on your hard drive. Sony didn’t say if the game will be sold through PC stores outside of Steam.

Additionally, God of War for PC, which costs $ 50, includes the following additional content:

  • Death vow armor sets for Kratos and Atreus
  • Guardian Shield of Exile Skin
  • Buckler of the Forge shield skin
  • Shiny Elven Soul Shield Skin
  • Dökkenshieldr shield skin

Sony also confirmed that God of War has sold 19.5 million copies on PS4 alone as of August 2021. With the release on PC, God of War will open up to yet another gigantic potential audience.

That Sony is bringing God of War to PC is no surprise there a PC edition was leaked in September. It’s also a sign of the times for Sony to bring more of its first-party franchises to the PC. The company previously published Horizon: Zero Dawn and Days gone for pc while Uncharted games will be brought to PC in 2022.

Microsoft is bringing all of its first-party games to PC and launch, but Sony has yet to release one of its big games to console and PC at the same time. Another difference in strategies is that Sony is not offering its PC versions for free to people who already own the game on the console.

A continuation, God of war: Ragnarok, coming to PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 in 2022.
