Gmail Rolls Out Gemini AI Sidebar and Email Summaries

Google is introducing new AI features to Gmail to streamline the email tracking process. A new Gemini side panel will allow users to easily summarize email threads and compose new emails, with the ability to provide proactive prompts and ask free-form questions. This tool will utilize Google’s advanced models, including Gemini 1.5 Pro.

In addition to the web version, Gmail’s mobile apps will also receive updates that enable Gemini to summarize email threads. However, these features will only be accessible to paid Gemini users. To access them, individuals must be Google Workspace customers with a Gemini Business or Enterprise add-on, have a Gemini Education or Education Premium add-on, or be a Google One AI Premium subscriber.

Although these AI enhancements could be beneficial, it is important to exercise caution and not solely rely on them. As AI technology is not infallible and may occasionally misinterpret information, users should always verify important emails before sending them.
