Google is redesigning Gmail with a new “AI Inbox” based on AI-generated summaries and tasks.
Based on Google’s flagship AI model Gemini, the new feature will embed AI summaries directly into users’ Gmail accounts, along with buttons for writing AI-generated replies, setting up calendar events and providing summaries of email threads, according to preview images.
By checking which people you email frequently and inferring your relationship with them based on message content, AI Inbox identifies “VIPs” to help prioritize “important” emails like upcoming bills or appointments.
These items are then moved up along with simple “to-do” recommendations based on their content.
