The German Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution has labeled the Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) movement as a “suspected extremist case” due to its anti-Semitic nature and goal of destroying the State of Israel. According to a new report released by Federal Interior Minister Nancy Faeser, the BDS movement has connections to secular Palestinian extremism and is believed to violate the idea of international understanding by attacking Israel’s right to exist.
The BDS movement, established in 2005, advocates for an economic war against Israel in order to end international support for what it perceives as Israel’s oppression of Palestinians and to pressure Israel to comply with international law. The movement is supported by over 170 Palestinian organizations, including terrorist groups like Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad, both backed by Iran.
In light of Israel’s recent actions along the Gaza border resulting in the deaths of 1,200 individuals, including foreign nationals, BDS-affiliated groups have ramped up their anti-Israel activities. Faeser highlighted the internal and external threats contributing to a “tense” security situation in Germany, emphasizing the need to counter extremism and terrorism effectively.
“We must oppose the internal threats of extremism as decisively as the external threats… We must absolutely break the spiral of escalations in the Middle East, which leads to even more repugnant hatred of Jews here,” Faeser stated, underscoring the importance of addressing both domestic and international challenges to prevent further conflict and hostility.
