IBM and the All England Lawn Tennis Club have introduced a new feature for the Wimbledon digital experience called ‘Catch Me Up’. This feature uses generative AI from IBM’s WatsonX platform to provide fans with up-to-date information on the top players as they compete in the championship.

The ‘Catch Me Up’ feature will display personalized pre- and post-match player cards with AI-generated player stories and analysis on wimbledon.com and the Wimbledon app. The content is tailored based on user preferences, location, and favourite players. Pre-match content includes performance analysis and win predictions, while post-match content features key statistics and highlights.

This feature was created using IBM’s Granite Large Language Model (LLM) and has been trained on Wimbledon’s editorial style. The All England Club will monitor the feature to ensure accuracy and quality. The goal of ‘Catch Me Up’ is to enhance the content available to tennis fans globally and provide more comprehensive coverage of individual matches that occur simultaneously.

In addition to ‘Catch Me Up’, Wimbledon will use generative AI to cover a wider range of matches, including wheelchair events, to cater to its diverse international audience. IBM Slamtracker, available on the Wimbledon app and website, has been updated to include bulleted match previews and post-match reviews for both men’s and women’s singles matches.

Jonathan Adashek, senior vice president of marketing and communications at IBM, expressed excitement about the potential of generative AI to deliver insightful stories at scale. He highlighted the longstanding partnership between IBM and Wimbledon in leveraging technology to enhance fan experiences. Adashek emphasized that IBM is making similar AI technologies available to clients across various industries to address their specific business needs.
