Microsoft has recently released four different themes for Windows 10, all of them published in the Microsoft Store and obviously available free of charge.
Before anything, it’s important to keep in mind that despite these new downloads being offered as themes, they include nothing more beside wallpapers which can be used on a Windows 10 device.
This means that once you install them, you won’t get things like sounds and other visual tweaks, but only the said high-resolution photos that can be set as desktop backgrounds.
The themes require Windows 10 Fall Creators Update and newer, which kind of makes sense given that this is the oldest version that still receives updates from Microsoft. Windows 10 Creators Update and previous released are currently serviced as part of the LTSC branch and get updates on Enterprise and Education SKUs.
How to enable the themes
Once themes are installed, you can easily enable them on the PC by heading over to Settings > Personalization > Themes on the Windows 10 device. Back up your current settings by pressing the Save theme button and then choose a new theme from the list in the lower part of the screen.
Wallpapers then change automatically on your desktop, but you can also switch to the next background by simply right-clicking the desktop > Next desktop background.
These themes come with more than a dozen wallpapers each, so you can cycle between theme easily once installing them.
Microsoft typically releases new themes with high-resolution wallpapers every once in a while, so expect more such downloads to make their way to the Microsoft Store very soon.
