Former Google CEO Eric Schmidt recently sold his 3-acre estate in Atherton, California for $22.5 million after listing it for $24.5 million in April. Schmidt and his wife acquired the property in 1990 for $2 million and spent over two decades expanding the main house and adding luxurious amenities like a guest house, garden, and greenhouse.

The buyer’s identity remains unknown, as the sale record has not been made public. Atherton is known for its luxury real estate market, with prices seeing a significant increase this spring, reaching a median listing price of $13.9 million in May, which is a 50% jump from the previous year.

The main house, built in 1969 and renovated by the Schmidts, offers 5,265 square feet of living space with features like fireplaces, beamed ceilings, and light-filled rooms. The upper level includes private outdoor areas such as terraces and balconies.

The backyard of the property is ideal for entertaining, with a pool, spa, outdoor fireplace, and pavilion. The upper part of the estate surrounds a greenhouse and garden with raised beds and fruit trees.

Eric Schmidt, who led Google from 2001 to 2015, has not commented on the sale. Listing agent Katharine Carroll of Compass declined to provide a statement regarding the transaction. The details of the purchase remain undisclosed at this time.
