Can you believe there is another powerful gaming phone on the go? The RedMagic 6 Pro was just announced, and it looks like it will be here Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra and the one ahead Asus ROG phone 5 a run for his money.
Not only does the phone have a crazy 18GB of RAM, but it also has an incredible 165Hz refresh rate. If you thought 120Hz was impressive, this is likely to knock your socks off.
The RedMagic 6 Pro is powered by Qualcomm’s flagship Snapdragon 888 chipset, offers a 6.8-inch full HD OLED display, capacitive “shoulder releases” on each side, up to 512 GB of storage and a 120 W Fast charging system that appears to fully charge the battery 4,500 mAh battery in just 17 minutes. That’s bloody fantastic if you ask us.
There’s a non-Pro model too, but the charging system is nowhere near as impressive. It has a larger 5050 mAh battery but only a 66 W charger that takes 38 minutes to reach 100%. It also only has up to 12 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage.
In terms of camera, both phones have a triple lens system on the back with a 64-megapixel main lens, an 8-megapixel ultrawide lens, and a 2-megapixel macro lens. It’s not the best camera out there, but you probably aren’t buying this phone for its photography capabilities. There is also a front sensor for selfies that is hidden in the bezel of the phone. That means there are no nicks, holes, or pop-up cameras. Just pure, unfiltered screen
Like most phones, both have 5G, USB-C connectivity, Wi-Fi 6, a built-in fingerprint scanner, and a 3.5mm headphone jack. You don’t have to worry about the audio delay here that Bluetooth headphones can cause.
Interestingly, RedMagic 6 is being released in collaboration with the Chinese company Tencent. Apparently, this means that it will be optimized for Tencent apps like WeChat and QQ and that the company’s Solar Core gaming software will come pre-installed.
While these apps aren’t as popular outside of China, Solar Core promises better response speed, frame rates, and network latency. All of which will come in very handy when trying to get your game going.
The RedMagic 6 starts at 3,799 yuan (about $ 585) and offers you the model with 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage. The RedMagic 6 Pro starts at 4,399 yuan (about $ 677), but that only gets you 12 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage. The top-tier model with 18 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage costs 6,599 yuan, which is around $ 1,017. So all of this hardware isn’t cheap. Official US prices have not yet been announced.
The phone can already be pre-ordered in China. A global launch is expected to take place before the end of the month.
