Motor Co. plans to use Google’s Android operating system to display its vehicle screens by 2023. This is the youngest automaker to access Silicon Valley as the digitization of the auto business accelerates.
The Dearborn, Michigan-based auto company announced Monday that it had signed a six-year deal with the tech giant to embed the Google suite of apps, including voice commands and navigation, in multimedia displays on all Ford models outside of China.
Ford also plans to include Alphabet Inc.’s
Google for Cloud services help the automaker develop functions in the car and manage the myriad of data that is streamed from its vehicles. The computer service is also used to organize production.
The terms of the contract were not disclosed.
