The 18-year-old is said to have pounced on the police with an “edge weapon”.
A Florida Institute of Technology student who reportedly wielded a knife at students on campus was fatally shot by officials Friday night, authorities said.
Police officers and school security responded shortly before 11pm to reports of a man on Melbourne campus who “armed with a knife and attacked students,” Melbourne police said.
The incident began in Roberts Hall, a college dormitory, according to school officials.
Officials confronted the man, identified by police as 18-year-old Alhaji Sow, in a campus building “armed with a sharp weapon,” the department said.
Sow fell on a police officer with his gun during the confrontation, and the officer and a school security officer both fired their guns and beat him, according to Melbourne police.
