“Fixing” the broken Solaris management console that Oracle can’t fix – OSnews

In mine in-depth article about the Sun Microsystems ecosystem in the late 2000sI mentioned an issue I encountered with the latest (leaked) 2020 Solaris 10 patchset. available on Archive.org. Sun does not make Solaris 10 patches and patch sets from 2014 and later available online for free, limiting them to large enterprise customers with expensive support contracts. The same restrictions apply to support-only documents for Solaris 10, so Oracle-documented issues, including causes and possible solutions, are only accessible to those with support contracts.

The specific issue I encountered is that after installing the 2020 patchset the Solaris Management Consolea GUI application written in Java that allows you to manage certain aspects of your system would no longer work.
