Apple’s iPhone 4 is often viewed as the pinnacle of phone design, but what about the Fisher-Price Chatter phone? With its friendly features (large smiley face on the front) and the mobile design (thanks to its four wheels), the Chatter Telephone has long been the gadget of choice among the aesthetically demanding and the under-4. This week, on the occasion of the device’s 60th anniversary, Fisher-Price blew us away once more with courage and innovation: The Chatter phone is now on the phone and now receives.

The new Fisher-Price Chatter Telephone Bluetooth Edition is admittedly more of an accessory than a full-fledged mobile device. It connects to your Android or iOS phone via bluetooth and corresponding Gizmodo, you can actually use the plastic dial to dial numbers and take and end calls by lifting the handset and placing it on the cradle. There’s even a speakerphone feature if you take that super important conference to try and nail it down who took your nose?.

It’s not all good news, however. Quite disappointingly, the $ 60 gadget charges from the extremely dated microUSB, but I think that’s a reasonably retrograde choice. The phone can be pre-ordered exclusively at Best Buyalthough it is not yet clear when it will be shipped. At least you can be sure that the supply will not be affected by the shortage of chips and we expect that quite a few households will decorate their home office with one of these beauties for Christmas.
