First Snapdragon X Elite laptops benchmarked, Apple and Intel take note

Qualcomm has recently launched their new Snapdragon X Elite and Snapdragon X Plus laptops that are being tested in labs. These Arm-based processors are said to offer performance and efficiency comparable to Apple’s M-series chips, known for their power and endurance. Tom’s Guide has tested various laptops including the Asus Vivobook S 15, Microsoft Surface Pro 11, and HP Omnibook, with promising results so far. The Snapdragon X Elite processors have shown impressive performance in benchmark tests, coming close to or even surpassing Apple silicon and Intel Core Ultra 7 CPUs.

In Geekbench 6 tests for overall CPU performance, the Snapdragon X Elite laptops performed well, with multi-core performance being a standout feature, especially in the Microsoft Surface Pro 11. In terms of gaming performance, the laptops showed limited capabilities, with certain titles like Fortnite posing compatibility issues due to the Arm-based architecture. However, the devices performed better in video editing tasks compared to Apple M3 MacBooks.

Battery life tests are still ongoing, but early results indicate a promising outcome, with one laptop running for over 12 hours. The Microsoft Surface Pro 11 lasted 12 hours and 10 minutes in a battery test, showcasing potential for long-lasting battery life comparable to MacBooks. While the laptops excel in performance and battery life, compatibility issues with certain apps and games remain a concern, which may be resolved over time as more developers adapt to Arm architecture.

Overall, the Snapdragon X Elite laptops offer strong performance and potentially good battery life, appealing to users seeking a balance between power efficiency and endurance. Despite limitations in gaming capabilities and compatibility with certain apps, the devices show promise in delivering a competitive alternative to Apple’s offerings.
