Fatal Off-Campus Shooting Leaves One Dead and Three Injured

One person was killed and three others wounded in a shooting that took place near the USF campus early Sunday morning. The Tampa Police Department received a call about the incident at 4:40 a.m. and found that two cars had been shot at a parking lot near a hotel on McKinley Drive. The USF community was informed of the shooting through several alerts, advising them to avoid the area. It was later confirmed that there was no threat to the campus. The shooting occurred during the transfer weekend for summer B students, a time when there are usually many families on campus. The incident took place next to the La Quinta Inn and Suites, a recommended hotel for visitors to USF. The deceased victim was identified as Charles Jones, a Florida rapper known as Julio Foolio, who was in Tampa celebrating his birthday. His attorney confirmed his death. The three injured victims are in stable condition and receiving treatment at a hospital. The Tampa police are continuing their investigation into the shooting.
