The art of provocation: Queensland police are cracking down on artwork that uses the now-banned phrase “from river to sea”, spending their time calling artists to warn them about falling foul of the state’s new hate speech laws.

But what if you just want to celebrate John Farnham’s iconic 1998 duet “Two Strong Hearts” with Olivia Newton-John?

Street artist Scott Marsh painted a mural in Brisbane depicting Farnham with free-flowing curls and surrounded by watermelons (a symbol linked to pro-Palestinian causes due to the colors it shares with the Palestinian flag), along with the offensive lyric “river to the sea.”
