Fans of the Giants create spontaneous memorial at Mays statue in Oracle Park

San Francisco Giants fans came together to pay tribute to the late Baseball Hall of Famer Willie Mays, who passed away at the age of 93. Mays, known as “The Say Hey Kid,” was honored by fans who gathered at his statue outside Oracle Park to leave flowers and messages in remembrance of the legendary player.

The statue of Mays was unveiled outside the stadium in 2000, commemorating his legacy as one of the greatest players in MLB history and the best to ever wear a Giants uniform. The statue is surrounded by 24 palm trees, representing Mays’ iconic number, and holds special significance for Bay Area fans following his passing.

One emotional fan left a heartfelt note at the statue, expressing gratitude to Mays and reflecting on his lasting impact as a Giant. The gathering spot outside Oracle Park, typically used by fans attending games, now serves as a place for fans to remember and honor Mays’ life and contributions to baseball for years to come.
