Family speaks up after a Florida Tech student was shot dead by police


The family of an 18-year-old Florida Tech University student who was shot dead while pouncing on officers after attacking people with a knife on campus, police say, will speak up Wednesday morning.

Melbourne Police identified the student as Alhaji Sow from Atlanta, who, according to Florida Tech, had studied aeronautical science. His mother and father will meet with their lawyer in Viera at 9 a.m. to discuss the incident.

According to a press release from law firm Osborne & Francis, the family hired their attorney to “conduct their own independent investigation into the shooting.”

Melbourne Police Department said officials and campus security agents responded shortly before 11 p.m. on Friday to a security threat at Roberts Hall at Florida Tech regarding a man who was reportedly armed with a knife and assaulted students.
