That’s right, Fall Guys is free and playable for everyone starting June 21, with a new PS5 version that improves the bean-stumbling action.
But before we dive deeper into what’s new, let’s take a look back at where we started… Can you believe we launched Fall Guys back in August 2020? A lot has happened in those two years, including some amazing collaborations and huge groundbreaking updates. I think Squads mode was the game’s biggest single improvement so far – it just felt like a whole new way to play with a party without having to keep getting dropped because someone on the dev team got eliminated back in turn 1 (not going to mention any names here). It’s just such a great feeling to be able to share the joy of winning with all your friends who are watching!
The one year anniversary of Fall Guys launch was a very special moment. It was an incredible honor that anyone even took an interest in our silly obstacle course bean game, but to have a dedicated, passionate community celebrating a year of great success in Fall Guys is something else entirely. Development is never smooth, but I’m incredibly proud of how the team has maintained and improved the game since launch.
PlayStation Plus membership is not required for online play.
Well, what’s new?
how long do you have We have so Many new features, obstacles, rounds and more are being added to Fall Guys in this new season.
My personal favorite novelty in the game has to be Blast Balls! As a design team, we’ve been looking for new ways to create finals that give players more room to maneuver, bash each other and make some clever strategic plays. Blast Balls achieves that while still staying true to the core of Fall Guys – they’re fun, physics-based, and perfect for creating highlight-worthy clips.
We’ve also added some incredible new rounds including Hex-a-Ring. It’s basically a version of Hex-a-Gone played on a rotating tube. You have to move through layers of tiles without falling off the rotating floor and don’t fall into the slime! I’d be lying if I said a lot of our teams did well this round, but I can’t wait to see the community highlights when they get a chance to try it out.
With some absolutely wild collaborations coming up, we can’t wait for everyone to jump in and try it out for themselves! Follow our social channels for more news and teasers about upcoming collaborations.
It’s impossible for me to reveal ALL the new features coming in the coming season, but I’m really excited to share some of the fantastic technical features coming with the PS5.
Now let’s look at the technical details
We’re very excited to bring some awesome features to Fall Guys for PS5 players.
First off, we’re super excited to say that we’ll be using improved physics and native 4K asset handling, which means… Fall Guys will hit 60fps at 4K on PS5 starting June 21st. This is a big deal for us – just imagine each colorful costume tumbling along in 4k resolution – so beantacular!
Our Tonic team tried some fun things with the DualSense wireless controller haptics to add to the game later. Dan Parkes (one of our audio engineers) added this nice feature where the controller starts vibrating as you get close to the crown. It’s subtle, but it really adds to the suspense as you hit the final few feet of Fall Mountain and Lost Temple.
We’ve also been working on Direct Access for Fall Guys on PS5, which essentially links certain parts of the Fall Guys menu to quick tasks. That means you can jump straight to the main show, duos, trios, and squad modes from the start menu. But no worry. You will not get into a match until you confirm you want to load into matchmaking.
As a thank you to all our awesome Fall Guys players, anyone who downloaded and played Fall Guys before June 21st is eligible for some iconic rewards. We don’t want to spoil it, but a little Pegwin told me it contains a certain Veggie Dog and Fiesty Dwarf Costume…
We’re also running a pre-registration campaign where we hope to unlock some very cool rewards with the community. For more information on Free for All pre-registration, follow @FallGuysGame on Twitter.
It’s been a wild ride, but I’m so excited to see so many new players entering the Blunderdome for the launch of Fall Guys: Free for all on June 21st.
Thank you to everyone who has enjoyed Fall Guys along the way. Seeing how much the community has grown and supported the game has been so rewarding, this has been a labor of love and we’re all really looking forward to sharing our silly bean game with the rest of the world.
See you in the Blunderdome!
