Fake Oracle-style art installation pokes fun at AI despite being concerned about the technology

Concerns about artificial intelligence are increasing.

The Florida House of Representatives is devoting the second week of December to state lawmakers studying the potential impact, and debates are underway over technology and art — particularly how AI is trained on vast datasets of images crawled from the Internet without the artist’s permission. That’s what led to this Complaints against several AI companies over copyright concerns.

Recently, it appears to have found its way into one of North Florida’s largest music festivals.

“The Oracle” was one of dozens of art installations at the Hulaween Music and Arts Festival in Live Oak over Halloween weekend. The large, blue, emotional eye was projected across the venue’s lake and answered questions from festival goers. It was announced as a new AI creation.

But according to creative director Justin Bolognino, the Oracle was more like the Wizard of Oz than HAL 9000.
