Fake claims about raising the retirement age are spreading online

A false claim circulating online that Australia’s retirement age will be raised to 68 this month has been republished by Google AI.

The false information published by HIIT5158.com.au claims that the “official retirement age” in Australia will increase from 67 to 68 from November 10, 2025, affecting anyone “born on or after November 10, 1958”.

The information was then collected by Google AI and displayed in the overview for some searches.

Australia has no official retirement age.

Australians can retire at any age if they have the financial means to do so.

Retirement savings can generally be accessed when a person reaches the “conservation age,” which is usually between 55 and 60, depending on when you were born.

To be eligible for the State Old Age Pension you must currently be at least 67 years old.
