Europe warns of national security risk from China chip advances

China’s rapid advances in semiconductor technology pose a national security risk to Europe that requires governments to make sweeping changes to their plans to expand the chip industry, according to a new report.

The current proposals of the European Union to secure a state-of-the-art chip factory are not a viable strategy and “are not enough,” said Jan-Peter Kleinhans from the think tank of the New Responsibility Foundation John Lee, formerly Mercator Institute for China Studies.
