In response to the global health and macroeconomic crisis that began last year, clients have accelerated their digital transformation efforts at an unprecedented pace to strengthen the resilience of the organization. They relied on the cloud not only to maintain business continuity throughout the recovery, but also to redefine their mission for long-term growth. Customers like Albertons Companies, Actavo, H&R Block and Additiv have shared How migrating to the cloud with Microsoft Azure allowed them to stay stable:

“Within a week, we were able to tick a box that said, ‘When the ban comes, we’re ready to go.’ The announcement of the lockdown came on a Friday afternoon at five o’clock. We actually had everyone who had to work at home and worked at home on Monday morning. “Willie Ryan, global director for environment, health and safety and IT, Actavo

“The pace of change before the pandemic has been fast, but there is no reason to believe that these trends will not accelerate after the pandemic … The companies that do best are those that are either digital or native have invested most in digital. “”—Silvan Schriber, Head of Corporate Development, Additive

Azure has always helped our various customers adapt to new business practices, and we see common areas where you will focus your transformation during this crisis. Almost every company has had to focus on remote working to enable new forms of employee productivity in these environments. Some industries, such as retail and healthcare, need on-demand capacity to handle the surge more than ever. Every company is reviewing cost optimization initiatives to better manage cash flow. IT managers are concerned about running their data centers without interruption, dealing with reduced staff and resources, while security remains a top priority.

You can use cloud migration to address the above challenges. To realize these benefits quickly and predictably, you can reach out to cloud providers for guidance and assistance on best practices along your journey. You are looking for the trust that will help you mitigate the risk of your transition.

Azure has comprehensive guides, tools, and programs that you can use to successfully control your cloud transformation. Today we announce additional and expanded investments in each of these areas. Make sure to check out my latest Microsoft Ignite on demand Session to learn more.

Get started with cloud economics best practices and guidance in Microsoft Cloud Adoption Framework for Azure

Most customers have workloads running in on-premises, cloud, and edge environments during and after the migration. Consistency in management and governance is vital. Because of this, you can use proven guides, documentation, and tools to accelerate your cloud adoption in a predictable manner Microsoft Cloud Adoption Framework for Azure. We have now added instructions to the Cloud Adoption Framework Hybrid cloud and multi cloud Approaches while ensuring security, governance and compliance all along the line.

When moving to the cloud, it’s also important to consider the impact of moving from an investment model (CAPEX) – ownership and operation of data centers and hardware – to an operating expenses model (OPEX) on your company’s financial health. where you pay, how you use. With a CAPEX model, companies often use around 60 percent of their data center capacity for day-to-day operations and only 30 percent of their server capacity. Overcapacity, while critical, does mean paying for unused infrastructure. We recommend aligning your migration and modernization plans with finance and procurement in advance in order to reach an early agreement on the cloud business case as well as the right guidelines for follow-up. CYTI is one of many Azure customers who have benefited from this approach:

“We’re now saving about 30 percent a year on infrastructure costs by simply moving to Azure, with more flexibility, better servers, more customization, and more freedom to do what we want.” –Darren Gourley, CYTI’s chief technology officer

It is also important to understand the fundamental differences between on-premises and cloud infrastructure. The cloud provides instant access to innovative technologies and various new options that are not available on-premise. It is important to know what different options the cloud offers and how they can help you with your specific scenario so that you can select and optimize the right options from the start using the right technical and financial constructs in the cloud. We recently released a new one Cloud Economics website to demystify some key constructs in the cloud and help you start your cloud journey with peace of mind. We will continue to deliver a variety of digital content highlighting key technical and financial tips from Azure experts and sharing lesser-known tips and best practices from other organizations.

Accelerate your move with new assessment and migration features in Azure Migrate

Azure migration is the single point of contact for built-in and extensible capabilities that thousands of customers have used to meet their unique workload discovery, assessment, and migration needs across a wide variety of infrastructure, application, and database scenarios. Today we announce that you will be able to automate and optimize other aspects of your migration with the following additional features throughout the migration and modernization journey:

  • Discovery and Evaluation: You can now enjoy unified discovery and assessment for Microsoft SQL Server natively in the Azure Migrate experience. This means you can discover your SQL Server database instances at scale and receive actionable readiness, cost, and performance guidance to help you migrate to Azure SQL options such as SQL Server on Azure Virtual Machines or PaaS (Platform as a Service) how to inform Azure SQL Database and Azure Managed SQL Instance. You can now also perform assessments for the migration to Azure VMware Solution. Assessments for migrating apps to Azure App Service will be added soon. Learn more about it Microsoft Mechanics video.

You can now take advantage of the latest improvements to your migration experience:

  • App containerization support: Migrate applications to containers running on Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS) with the new App Containerization Tool, which supports ASP.NET and Java web applications. Containerize an application running on on-premises servers (or on servers and virtual machines in Azure or other clouds) before migrating to AKS. This feature extends the existing migration capabilities in Azure Migrate, such as: B. Discovery, assessment, agentless mapping, server migration and integration. Learn more about App containerization.
  • New Azure PowerShell module: Configure and manage replication of servers in Azure and migrate them to Azure Virtual Machines in an automated, repeatable manner using Azure PowerShell cmdlets. The new Azure Migrate Azure PowerShell module provides PowerShell support for the agentless method of the server migration tool for migrating VMware virtual machines to Azure.
  • With our new integrated solution with Zerto you have the additional choice and migration flexibility.

Simplify your cloud journey with advanced scenarios in the Azure Migration Program and FastTrack for Azure

“Our original plan was to move in three months and we actually did it in eight weeks. The Microsoft Azure Migration Program, FastTrack Program, and Tech for Social Impact team were fantastic and really important to make that happen very challenging project that was completed on time and on budget. “-Keith Weller, Vice President, Enterprise Technology Services, American Cancer Society

American Cancer Society and British Council are two current examples of the many customers who are migrating and modernizing their infrastructure, applications and databases using the Internet Azure Migration Program (AMP). The program provides proactive guidance and the right mix of expert help at every stage of the migration journey so that you can move safely.

Starting this April, you can use the Azure Migration Program to modernize apps that run on all major source application frameworks. With this expanded set of app modernization scenarios, including Java and LAMP (Linux, Apache, MySQL, PHP, Perl, Python), you can modernize these web applications for Azure Compute – fully managed PaaS with App Service or fully managed containerization platform with Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS). For web app databases, you can choose between Azure SQL or popular open source databases like MySQL and PostgreSQL.

Customers are already using Microsoft FastTrack for Azure, a technical activation program for quickly and effectively designing and deploying cloud solutions. We recently expanded to support hybrid deployment Azure Arc enabled servers. Now you can accelerate production deployment for cloud-native applications with FastTrack support for cloud-native best practices such as Kubernetes, OpenShift, serverless, and event-driven workloads.
