ELMWOOD PARK, Ill. (WLS) – A man from Elmwood Park has lost his savings to scammers who break into people’s online accounts by remotely accessing their computers.

These scammers are using the pandemic as a tool to help them hunt down more people, but there are red flags that can help you spot a potential thief.

Jamil Qandah is devastated by what these scammers have taken.

“This is my life, my life, my livelihood,” he said.

Jamil and his daughter Heidi lost nearly $ 200,000 to the remote access fraud.

“It affects me so much, for example, I had things to do in my house that I couldn’t do anymore,” he said.

The scammers took approximately $ 100,000 from his review and then another $ 100,000 from his home equity line of credit.

“I almost have tears in my eyes here, just thinking about it, because it has changed everything. You know that all of his savings have been taken from him,” said Heidi.

How did this happen? Quandah has Avast antivirus software. He got a call from a scammer …
