Eight actually interesting possible uses of AI in 2025

It may have been the year of AI “bullshit,” but 2025 also saw the emergence of some truly innovative, fascinating and even useful uses of artificial intelligence. Here we round up eight of our favorites as part of Dezeen’s look back at 2025.

“Slop” was the defining word of 2025 — at least according to Merriam-Webster — describing the flood of mindless, machine-generated content that has flooded social media thanks to generative AI systems like OpenAI’s Sora 2.

Meanwhile, the companies developing these models are still in an arms race to develop the smartest algorithm, spending unimaginable sums of money to build their massive data centers, which already produce more annual carbon emissions than New York City and guzzle more water than people (via bottled water, that is).

But outside the generative AI bubble, architects, designers and engineers are dreaming…
