Desktop Intel Arrow Lake-S

The leak of Intel’s Arrow Lake-S “800 series” desktop CPU platform block diagram reveals that the new CPUs will support up to 20 dedicated PCIe Gen5 lanes. The platform will be based on LGA 1851 socket motherboards with 800-series PCHs, including Z890, H870, B860, and H810 series. The high-end motherboards will feature DDR5-6400 memory and SKUs with 6+8 and 6+16 configurations.

The new Intel 800 series desktop platform will support higher memory speeds natively, with up to 6400 MT/s listed in a dual-channel configuration. The CPUs will feature native x16 PCIe Gen5 dGPU and x4 PCIe Gen5 M.2 lanes, as well as additional x4 Gen4 PCIe lanes for M.2. The Arrow Lake-S CPU I/O capabilities include DDR5 UDIMM/SODIMM support, eDP 1.4b, DP2.0 UHBR20/HDMI 2.1, USB 4.0, PCIe Gen5 lanes, and SATA III lanes. The ARL-S PCH for 800 Series Motherboards includes DMI Gen4, PCIe Gen4 lanes, SATA III lanes, GbE ports, USB ports, and Wi-Fi support.

AMD’s Ryzen 9000 desktop CPUs will have 24 usable PCIe Gen5 lanes, giving them an advantage over Intel in terms of total Gen5 lanes. Intel Arrow Lake CPUs will support native DDR5-6400 memory, while Zen 5 CPUs from AMD will continue with native DDR5-5600 support. The Arrow Lake-S desktop CPUs are expected to launch in the second half of 2024 and will compete against AMD’s Zen 5-based Ryzen 9000 “Granite Ridge” CPUs.

At Computex 2024, Intel’s motherboard partners unveiled their next-generation designs based on the Z890 PCH and LGA 1851 socket. The Arrow Lake-S CPUs are part of the first Arrow Lake desktop family and feature various improvements like increased PCIe Gen5 lanes. The CPUs are set to launch later this year and will target gaming platforms.

In summary, the leak of Intel’s Arrow Lake-S desktop CPU platform indicates a significant enhancement in PCIe Gen5 lanes and memory support compared to previous generations. The CPUs are expected to launch in 2024 and will compete against AMD’s Ryzen 9000 CPUs. Overall, Intel is making strides in improving its desktop CPU lineup to meet the needs of gamers and enthusiasts.
