Data center darlings Dell and Hewlett Packard Company You’ve just been blindsided by Wall Street’s reality check. Morgan Stanley torched seven hardware companies on Monday, warning that rising costs of memory chips could crush margins over the next 18 months. Dell plunged 8% while HPE fell 7% as investors rushed to price in what analysts call an “unprecedented price supercycle.”

The killing began early Monday morning when Morgan Stanley Analysts released an explosive research note that sent shockwaves through the hardware ecosystem. Dell received the harshest treatment with a rare double reduction from overweight directly to underweight, while HPE was reduced from overweight to equal weight.
