DE-CIX, the leading Internet Exchange operator globally, and Chief Telecom, a prominent data center and IX operator in East Asia, have recently signed a letter of intent to form a strategic partnership. This collaboration will allow Chief Telecom customers to access the comprehensive DE-CIX ecosystem starting in June 2024, providing a range of peering, cloud, and interconnection services on a global scale.

Through this agreement, Chief Telecom customers will have the opportunity to connect to the DE-CIX ASEAN distributed interconnection platform in Singapore and engage in remote interconnections with DE-CIX Frankfurt, one of the largest Internet exchanges in Europe. This will enable Chief Telecom customers to benefit from DE-CIX’s enterprise services, including the DE-CIX Microsoft Azure Interconnection Service (MAPS) for secure connectivity to the Microsoft 365 cloud, as well as cloud connectivity to major cloud service providers and inter-cloud connectivity via the DE-CIX Cloud ROUTER.

The partnership aims to enhance network performance by reducing latency and improving the delivery of digital content and applications. Customers of Chief Telecom will be able to leverage this improved connectivity to strengthen their economic ties with Singapore, as well as South and Southeast Asia.

DE-CIX’s ASEAN distributed interconnection platform spans seven key metropolitan markets in Southeast Asia, facilitating direct data paths, lower latency, and cloud access across the region. This interconnected ecosystem allows customers in these markets to exchange Internet traffic seamlessly, offering high-quality interconnection services for various requirements within the region.

Joseph Wu, President of Chief Telecom, highlighted the significance of the strategic partnership with DE-CIX, emphasizing the vast network coverage and operational excellence of DE-CIX globally. By leveraging each other’s strengths, Chief Telecom and DE-CIX aim to deliver more comprehensive solutions in both Europe and Asia, benefiting customers and peering members with improved Internet services.

Mareike Jacobshagen, Director of the Global Business Partner Program at DE-CIX, expressed excitement about the partnership, which will enable Chief Telecom to directly interconnect with networks in Southeast Asia. This collaboration aligns with DE-CIX’s mission to drive digitalization in various regions worldwide and shape the infrastructure necessary for today’s digital economies to flourish and expand.
