Dartmouth College has confirmed that more than 40,000 people’s personal information, including Social Security numbers and financial account information, was compromised in a three-day cyberattack in August.
The attack, disclosed in Violation notifications According to security researchers, the complaint filed last week with the attorney general is part of a broader campaign that has hit more than a hundred organizations worldwide. The perpetrators exploited a previously unknown vulnerability in Oracle’s E-Business Suite, the enterprise software that Dartmouth and thousands of other institutions use to manage everything from payroll to procurement.
