Organizations today build and run applications across a variety of on-premise, multi-cloud, and fringe ecosystems. To maintain flexibility and ensure compliance, it is critical to the success of a company to effectively manage servers, applications and data on a large scale – regardless of where they are located.

Microsoft Azure Arc is a set of technologies that unlock new local, hybrid and multicloud scenarios for customers by extending Azure services and management to any infrastructure. Across industries, customers use Azure Arc to integrate Azure management into any infrastructure and enable Azure services to run anywhere.

Azure Arc provides a single plane of control that allows you to consistently manage and manage all of your resources anywhere. With Azure Arc-enabled services, you have the flexibility to deliver Azure services anywhere – locally or in other public clouds. Use cloud innovations where you need them by delivering consistent, up-to-date Azure data services everywhere.

Let me explain how Ferguson, Africa’s Talking, Siemens Healthineers, and KPMG have seamlessly managed their hybrid and multicloud resources using Azure Arc and achieved tremendous business value.

Ferguson uses Azure Arc to extend its on-premises Azure services

Ferguson, the largest plumbing wholesaler in the United States, uses Azure Arc to centrally manage thousands of servers in different locations by extending Azure to its on-premises data centers. Ferguson’s IT department can now use the Azure portal to easily monitor, update and control all IT systems across the company using the Azure portal by grouping and tagging them. Ferguson uses Azure Arc-enabled servers, Kubernetes and data services and has unified its IT operations with Azure Arc, its IT resources in Azure and its data centers in a single control plane.

“By linking our Azure and on-premises environments with policies and tagging, we can create a consistent way to deploy and manage our systems in a different environment. This is really important to us because as we become leaner as a company, we still need to manage our IT footprint effectively. “-Kristina Melo, SQL database administrator, Ferguson Enterprises

Ferguson manages over 5,000 virtual machines and plans to migrate most of these virtual machines to the cloud. However, you don’t want to wait for them to migrate to take advantage of the Azure management capabilities. With Azure Arc-enabled servers, Ferguson can project its on-premises servers into Azure, so IT can monitor, update and manage all resources across the enterprise from a single dashboard in the Azure portal.

As an industry leader, Ferguson’s IT department is constantly on the lookout for new technology to drive business forward and better serve its employees, customers, suppliers and contractors.

Africa’s Talking uses Kubernetes clusters to deploy and manage messaging and payment solutions across Africa

With offices across Africa, Kenya-based Africa’s Talking provides custom APIs for mobile, voice, messaging, and payments for large businesses and thousands of developers. However, with limited cloud services in some regions, it has been difficult for the company to deliver the containerization capabilities its customers need to meet their business needs and goals.

By using Azure Arc-enabled Kubernetes and Azure Arc-enabled data services, Africa’s Talking can manage multiple Kubernetes clusters and deliver data services wherever they are needed from a central control point. To help its customers deliver new and exciting services while meeting data sovereignty, latency and other business needs, Africa’s Talking needs to configure, deploy and run multiple clusters in both on-premises data centers and public clouds.

Africa’s Talking also uses GitOps configuration management in Azure Arc. The team no longer has to manually configure each cluster.

“Before Azure Arc, it could take a technician a day to configure a new cluster. Now it takes minutes. We can test and develop new functions and fix bugs quickly, which saves us time and improves our customers’ experience. “-Salama Balekage, software engineer, Africa speaks

With Azure Arc, Talking developers in Africa can simply update each repository which is then automatically applied to the relevant clusters.

“What inspires me is that, with average means, a developer can use our technology to make their dreams come true – to provide products and services to global organizations. ”- Calvin Karundu, software engineer, Africa speaks

Siemens Healthineers provides on-site services for customers’ medical devices

The healthcare industry has been challenged this year to innovate faster than ever. However, companies must continue to guarantee their customers’ data protection and comply with their data sovereignty regulations. Siemens Healthineers, one of the world’s largest medical device providers, implemented Azure Arc, which enabled Kubernetes to improve the delivery of algorithms to analyze lung damage caused by COVID-19 from Azure to local medical devices around the world.

With Azure Arc, Siemens Healthineers can deploy and manage applications in Kubernetes clusters in tens of thousands of locations. It can also monitor, update and support applications from Azure while simultaneously managing customer data and the processing of this data on the medical devices.

“Azure Arc is a milestone for us. It gives our customers a choice and enables the continuous delivery of Kubernetes workloads from the cloud to the edge, on a large scale and as a service. “-Thomas Dossler, chief architect, Siemens Healthineers

Siemens Healthineers and healthcare providers turn to Kubernetes for modern application development – and at the same time maintain patient data in accordance with their data sovereignty regulations.

KPMG Japan offers customers seamless data solutions

KPMG Ignition Tokyo, at the heart of KPMG Japan’s digital strategy, implemented Azure Arc-enabled data services and Azure Arc-enabled Kubernetes to leverage their low-cost, secure cloud solution, Cloud Next, to give customers 24/7 support and hosting can use their digital solutions.

Due to the confidentiality of some customer data, KPMG cannot put all data workloads on public clouds. However, KPMG needs to manage its data workloads through a single pane of glass and leverage cloud benefits such as full automation and elastic scaling. With Azure Arc-enabled data services, KPMG can take advantage of Azure innovations in any on-premises infrastructure or in a multicloud environment and use Kubernetes on the hardware of their choice.

“With Azure Arc we can distribute solutions and workloads across multiple clouds and data centers to support our customers.”Aram Lauxtermann, Director Cloud, KPMG

As a global company with thousands of customers, KPMG needed a platform-independent way to support its customers in any desired environment. With Azure Arc, KPMG supports its customers from the data center to the cloud.
