Conservative state files lawsuit against technology company IBM for diversity requirements

The state of Missouri has filed a lawsuit against IBM for allegedly implementing racial and gender quotas in its hiring and promotion practices. Missouri Attorney General Andrew Bailey accused IBM of illegal practices that violate state human rights laws. IBM denied the claims, stating that they do not use quotas and never have. The lawsuit alleges that IBM uses a “diversity modifier” system that ties hiring quotas to bonuses, creating incentives that discriminate against certain demographics. The lawsuit claims that IBM’s CEO acknowledged that meeting these quotas would limit opportunities for groups not considered “underrepresented minorities.” This lawsuit comes in the wake of a Supreme Court ruling on affirmative action in higher education, signaling potential changes to how corporations approach diversity and inclusion practices. Missouri seeks to permanently prohibit IBM from using these quotas and discriminatory practices.
