The UK Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) is currently investigating HPE’s proposed acquisition of Juniper Networks. The CMA is assessing whether this deal could potentially lead to a decrease in competition in the relevant UK markets, in accordance with the Companies Act 2002. Interested parties are invited to provide comments on the transaction to assist in this evaluation. The deadline for the CMA to decide on whether to refer the deal to a further investigation is August 14.

HPE announced its plan to acquire Juniper Networks for $14 billion in January, aiming to expand its networking business and move towards higher-growth offerings. The company stated that this acquisition would double its networking business, creating a new networking leader with a broader portfolio. With Juniper, HPE’s focus would shift towards high-margin businesses, with networking expected to contribute significantly to its total revenue.

Analysts highlighted the role of artificial intelligence (AI) in this acquisition, emphasizing its importance in building data center infrastructure for AI workloads and enhancing network management capabilities. HPE expressed its intention to collaborate with the CMA to address any concerns and ensure a smooth approval process for the deal.

The investigation by the CMA coincides with HPE’s major event, HPE Discover, taking place in Las Vegas this week. Stay informed about the latest updates and news related to this acquisition by following our live blog.
