Comparison of Snapdragon X Series Chips to Apple’s M3 in Benchmark Tests

Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X-series chipsets have entered the PC processor market, positioning itself as a key component for devices labeled as Copilot+ PCs, a term coined by Microsoft for AI-powered computers. A recent report conducted benchmark tests on Snapdragon X-series chipsets to evaluate their performance against Apple, Intel, and AMD chips.

According to the benchmark tests by The Verge, the Snapdragon X Elite chipsets outperformed Apple’s M2 Max chips by 2-3% in single-core performance. They also surpassed Intel’s Core Ultra 7 155H and AMD Ryzen 7 8845HS processors by 24% and 17% respectively. However, in terms of single-core performance, Apple’s M3 chipsets were ahead of Snapdragon X-series chipsets.

The Snapdragon X-series chipsets performed well in CPU multi-core performance benchmarks, although Apple’s M2 Max and M3 Max chips outperformed them due to a higher core count. In GPU performance, Snapdragon X-series chips fell behind Apple, Intel, and AMD counterparts in benchmark tests.

In terms of battery life, Snapdragon-powered laptops offered between 14 and 16 hours of backup, while Apple’s MacBook Air M3 reached 18 hours. AMD and Intel laptops performed even worse, except for the Intel-powered Samsung Galaxy Book 4 Ultra which lasted just over 14 hours on a single charge.

Despite not being clear winners in benchmark tests, Snapdragon X-series chipsets still offer better CPU, GPU performance, and battery life compared to previous Arm-based Windows laptops. Qualcomm’s Don McGuire mentioned in an interview with Gadgets 360 that the new chipsets deliver high performance across CPU, GPU, and NPU, enhancing video conferencing capabilities, overall performance, battery life, and AI performance in AI-powered PCs.

It’s worth noting that Snapdragon-powered laptops in the US are more affordable than those powered by Apple, Intel, and AMD, but pricing for India is still unknown.
