As a journalist, I have been retesting the current generation Intel Core and AMD Ryzen processors on the latest Linux software stack and system BIOS in anticipation of upcoming CPU releases. The processors were tested on Phoronix with current metrics to showcase their performance with the latest open-source Linux software. Ubuntu 24.04 LTS was used as the platform, updated to Linux 6.10 Git during testing, and a Mesa 24.2-devel snapshot was utilized for driver support.

The tested processors include a range of AMD Ryzen and Intel Core models to provide a comprehensive view of their performance. The 18 processors tested include various Intel Core and AMD Ryzen models across different tiers.

For testing, all processors were paired with 2x 16GB DDR5-6000 memory, AMD Radeon RX 7900 GRE graphics, and a Corsair MP700 PRO PCIe 5.0 NVMe SSD. Each AMD processor was tested with an ASUS ROG STRIX X670-E GAMING WIFI, while Intel Raptor Lake Refresh CPUs were tested with the ASUS PRIME Z790-P WIFI.

Over 440 benchmarks were run on each processor covering a wide range of workloads including code compilation, programming languages, AI performance, HPC, and more. Gaming tests will be covered separately to provide a detailed analysis of Intel Core/AMD Ryzen Linux performance.

Additionally, dollar performance metrics were calculated for each benchmark using current retail prices in the US. The benchmarks aim to provide a comprehensive comparison of the performance and value of Intel Core and AMD Ryzen processors on Linux.
