The clubhouse quickly became a huge success earlier this year. Reached over 8 million downloads in the iOS App Store in February. However, as the competition grows, the audio-based social network is not doing well. According to a new report, the app registered around 900,000 downloads in April, after peaking at 9.6 million downloads three months ago.

According to a sensor tower research shared with Business InsiderClubhouse had 922,000 downloads worldwide in April 2021. That’s a 66% decrease from 2.7 million downloads in March – and even more significant when compared to the 9.6 million downloads Clubhouse had in February.

The data from the sensor tower suggests that Clubhouse’s user engagement is still strong. This means that the majority of the users who downloaded it still had the app installed. However, the sharp drop in the number of downloads is worrying for the company as fewer potential users are interested in its social network.

The company has tried to stay relevant by introducing a new live chat monetization feature and even a content creator assistance program. However, this doesn’t seem like enough against the competition. In the past few months, companies like Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, Telegram, and even Spotify have launched their own live audio platforms that do basically the same thing as Clubhouse.

Twitter in particular has done well with its audio platform called Twitter Spaces – which finally got widespread today for users on iOS and Android. In the meantime, Clubhouse remains an iPhone-only app, as an Android beta version was only announced today.

Although the company was valued at around $ 1 billion in January and was looking for new investors, Clubhouse’s future is now unclear.
