Clouds are gathering over Wall Street as AI disrupts the tech boom

Talk about unfortunate timing.

Last week, US tech giant Microsoft released a list of jobs likely to disappear in the impending artificial intelligence storm, as well as a corresponding list of occupations considered relatively resilient to the looming onslaught.

While it makes for depressing reading, there is at least one glaring omission from the list.

Despite last year’s mass layoffs, software developers and software coding specialists are surprisingly absent, although they’re certainly not in the category of those likely to be spared, which includes jobs like excavator operators, pile-drivers and bridge tenders.

In recent weeks there has been a significant reassessment of the impact of AI on the sector that created it and, in particular, on companies specializing in software.
