StateTech not long ago conducted a poll on Twitter asking, “What is the biggest hurdle for state and local IT decision makers to move to the cloud?” Expertise, inflexibility in legacy IT and budget issues.

We know, of course, that these options are intertwined. So when 44 percent of respondents said cybersecurity was the top barrier, it was understood that strong cybersecurity also requires the appropriate expertise and tools for the job.

When it comes to expertise, simply shrugging your shoulders and suggesting that outsourcing might solve all concerns isn’t a panacea. An informed government IT company is a trustworthy and efficient government IT company, and IT officials cannot afford to take a hands-on approach to managing their resources. A good public manager wants to speak about security operations with confidence.
