When cloud-based systems for computing, collaboration, data storage and more first hit the market, critics voiced fierce objections. Why would decentralized systems like the cloud be necessary and how would they be secure? Today, however, after many innovations in both use cases and system security, many companies, organizations and individuals increasingly rely on the cloud and its services.

The cloud computing industry has created an online ecosystem that is essentially a new normal, with everything from sophisticated data science and computing tools to simple collaborative and auto-saving Google Docs.
