Cisco launched the Cisco Meraki India region, a locally hosted cloud region in the country, to enhance network security and facilitate data localization. Integrated by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, this new region aims to support businesses in transitioning to a cloud-first approach while addressing local data storage and privacy requirements. By offering advanced security features like penetration testing and daily vulnerability scans, the Meraki India region enables customers to meet their data storage needs while advancing digital transformation in the country.
Lawrence Huang, senior vice president and general manager of Cisco Networking, Meraki, highlighted the significance of this development in meeting the increasing demand for data privacy and localization. The Cisco 2024 Data Privacy Benchmark Study revealed that the majority of organizations in India prefer storing data within their own country or region for enhanced security. With the launch of the Meraki India Region, Cisco aims to provide customers with a comprehensive network platform that offers agility, flexibility, and secure access to drive operational efficiency in today’s interconnected world.
President of Cisco India and SAARC, Daisy Chittilapilly, emphasized the importance of the Meraki India Region in catering to sectors with data sovereignty concerns, such as public sector entities and financial institutions. Cisco’s acquisition of Meraki in 2012 has positioned the company as a leader in networking solutions, serving over 810,000 customers globally. Meraki’s offerings include wired and wireless networking, SD-WAN, secure networking, and IoT capabilities, providing centralized visibility and control, unified network management, and cost savings for businesses.
Having established a presence in India for nine years, Meraki can now address regulatory challenges related to data sovereignty with the launch of the India region. The move is expected to attract a wider range of sectors that require localized data storage solutions. By offering a cloud platform that prioritizes security and data privacy, Cisco aims to support enterprises in their transition towards a cloud-first environment, ensuring operational efficiency and success in an increasingly interconnected digital landscape.
