Cisco introduces Meraki India Cloud Region to expand network infrastructure

Networking major Cisco has introduced Cisco Meraki India Region, a new cloud region hosted by a cloud service provider connected to the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, Government of India. This new region will allow Indian businesses to shift towards a cloud-first approach, meeting local data storage and privacy requirements. Meraki offers networking (wired, wireless, SD-WAN), secure networking, and IoT capabilities, providing customers with centralized visibility and control, unified management of networks, and reduced operating costs.

Lawrence Huang, senior vice president and general manager of Cisco Networking, Meraki, stated that the Meraki India region helps customers address their local data storage needs with advanced security features like penetration testing and daily vulnerability scans. This launch aligns with the growing demand for data privacy and localization, as highlighted in the Cisco Data Privacy Benchmark Study 2024, where 97% of organizations in India believe data is more secure when stored within their own country or region.

Cisco aims to target customer segments such as public sector entities, government, and financial institutions who prioritize local data storage with this launch. Daisy Chittilapilly, President of Cisco India and SAARC, sees a significant market opportunity for Cisco in India with this offering and anticipates its adoption across all market segments. With Meraki, Cisco plans to provide customers with a secure cloud infrastructure to develop innovative solutions, simplify network operations, create scalable networks, unify secure IT experiences, and address customer needs effectively.
