Cisco has announced a series of updates to its security portfolio, emphasizing the need to adapt security for the age of AI. Jeetu Patel, executive vice president of security and collaboration at Cisco, stated that AI is revolutionizing the industry and highlighted the significant amount of innovation delivered by Cisco’s security division in the past year. Patel emphasized the importance of integrating AI into core defenses and achieving end-to-end visibility in networks to address evolving threats.

One of the key updates is the introduction of Cisco Hypershield, a new security architecture aimed at protecting modern data centers at AI scale. Hypershield integrates security measures into virtual machines and public clouds, incorporating advanced silicon security measures into servers and network devices. The architecture also enables autonomous segregation, distributed exploit protection, and self-graded updates to enhance security capabilities.

At a recent event in Las Vegas, Cisco announced support for AMD Pensando DPUs and Intel’s infrastructure processing units (IPUs) with Hypershield. The company also unveiled the Cisco Firewall 1200 series, a family of compact, high-performance, firewall-enabled security appliances designed for enterprise branches. Additionally, Cisco introduced the Cisco Security Cloud Control to streamline the management of its security cloud, starting with the network security fabric.

Cisco also launched new security plugins for Splunk and expanded the capabilities of its ThousandEyes monitoring software. The Security Cloud technology add-on for Splunk allows for enhanced telemetry and analytics integration, while ThousandEyes Cloud Insights provides visibility into public cloud environments. ThousandEyes Traffic Insights extends visibility into local networks, assisting customers in detecting performance issues and traffic anomalies.

Overall, Cisco’s updates focus on leveraging AI and advanced technologies to enhance security measures, providing businesses with the tools needed to defend against sophisticated threats. By reinventing security for the age of AI, Cisco aims to empower organizations to stay ahead of evolving cybersecurity challenges and protect their digital assets effectively.
