Cisco and Splunk begin unified observability integration efforts

Cisco has completed the initial integration between its products and Splunk, bringing full-stack observability to a new level now known as unified observability. While Full-Stack Observability was a major focus last year, this year’s Cisco Live event is highlighting AI, with the recent acquisition of Splunk giving Cisco the ability to combine observability insights from different levels.

Despite a quieter start to Cisco Live regarding Full-Stack Observability, the company is emphasizing the integration possibilities of the two platforms. The acquisition, which was finalized in March, has led to the term Unified Observability being coined to signify the integration of observability data from traditional applications and modern microservices-based applications.

To kick off the integration process, Cisco has implemented new single sign-on credentials to allow for seamless access to both environments. They have also created deep integrations between AppDynamics and Splunk, allowing for a smooth transition between the platforms. By correlating AppDynamics metrics and events with Splunk data, analysts can quickly identify and resolve issues.

In addition to the integrations, both AppDynamics and Splunk have seen updates. AppDynamics will soon be available as a SaaS service on Microsoft Azure, and Cisco has introduced the Cisco AI Assistant to assist users in making faster decisions. Splunk ITSI features advanced AI capabilities to streamline information discovery on the platform, enhancing user experience.

As Cisco progresses with the integration process, they aim to leverage Splunk’s capabilities across their portfolio, impacting various business units. Splunk’s insights will play a significant role in Cisco’s networking cloud division, where the combination of ThousandEyes and Splunk could elevate AIOps and Digital Experience Guarantee to new levels. The deep integration of Splunk into Cisco’s operations signifies a promising future for the partnership, with more updates and advancements expected as the integration progresses.
