According to an AP report, the Chinese government is asking the country’s best-known tech companies about the security of voice software as it tightens cybersecurity regulations related to voice. The Cyberspace Administration of China met with eleven companies involved in Voice-Tech to talk about social audio platforms and the generation of synthetic speech, and to position the discussion on preventing fraud and identity theft.

The eleven companies included some of the largest Chinese tech companies such as Tencent, Quyan, Alibaba, Xiaomi and TikTok’s parent company Bytedance. The Cyberspace Administration urged further security reviews and efforts to anticipate and prevent future problems that may arise. The meeting is part of the Chinese government paying more attention to technology companies and potential rule violations.
