A developer wants to convert 10 acres of industrial land in South Downtown into a mixed-use community where technology is central.
Urbantec Development Partners LLC is the brainchild behind Forge Atlanta, a “technology-infused” project that will include apartment buildings, retail and entertainment stores, and a life sciences center.
Why it matters: If Forge Atlanta continues, it would join Newport’s redevelopment of historic South Downtown buildings, CIM Group’s plans to renew the Gulch, and a planned restart of Underground Atlanta to revitalize the historic heart of the city.
The location is in the former headquarters of Gourmet Foods International on Whitehall Street near Ted Turner Drive. It is close to the Garnett MARTA train station and the Atlanta University Center.
