Broadcom’s recent acquisition of VMware has resulted in a significant simplification of the offering and licensing model. This move brings together two innovative teams to create a leading infrastructure technology company focused on enabling global enterprises to use private, hybrid, and multi-cloud environments.

In order to better serve customers and drive customer success through faster innovation, VMware by Broadcom has simplified its product portfolio and transitioned to a subscription licensing model over the past two years. This shift aims to provide customers with continuous innovation, faster time to value, and predictable investments.

The announcement includes a simplification of the product portfolio across all business lines, following feedback from customers and partners. Additionally, all VMware by Broadcom solutions will now be offered as subscriptions, discontinuing perpetual license sales, Support and Subscription (SnS) renewals for perpetual offerings, and Hybrid Purchase Program/Subscription Purchase Program (HPP/SPP) credits.

Specific changes to the VMware Cloud Foundation division’s portfolio include two main offerings: VMware Cloud Foundation, an enterprise-class hybrid cloud solution for running mission-critical and modern applications, and VMware vSphere Foundation, a simplified workload platform for midsize and smaller customers. Both offerings come with optional advanced add-on services, such as storage, ransomware and disaster recovery services, and application platform services.

The transition to subscription licensing is seen as a natural evolution in VMware‘s strategy, making it easier for customers to leverage existing offerings and innovations. Customers can continue to use their perpetual licenses with active support contracts, with support provided in accordance with contractual obligations. Broadcom will assist customers in upgrading from perpetual to subscription products at upgrade pricing incentives.

This shift towards simplification and subscription offerings reflects VMware by Broadcom’s commitment to customer success and innovation in the digital transformation journey. Customers are encouraged to review their perpetual license inventory and contact VMware account or partner representatives for more information on transitioning to subscription licenses. The changes aim to drive success for customers and provide the flexibility needed for digital transformation.
