Shares of Broadcom AVGO fell about 2% on Tuesday despite the company securing a five-year, $970 million contract with Carahsoft Technology Corp. and the Defense Information Systems Agency.

The agreement is designed to streamline software procurement for several defense branches, including the Air Force and Space Force, by standardizing pricing and simplifying deployment. It aims to reduce delays and overlap in managing software across the defense system.

At the center of the deal is Broadcom’s VMware Cloud Foundation, a private cloud platform that supports both legacy applications and modern cloud tools. The system includes Kubernetes support for app management and Private AI services that help agencies safely deploy AI applications for real-time data tasks in secure environments.
