The former Avago acquired Broadcom in 2021 for $37 billion and changed its name to Broadcom Inc. In late May 2022, Broadcom announced a definitive agreement to acquire Vmware (VMW) for $61 billion in a half cash, half stock deal, along with an $8 billion assumption of net debt.
Broadcom believes the acquisition of VMware advances the company’s strategy to build the world’s leading infrastructure technology company. Upon closing of the transaction, which is expected to occur in the company’s fiscal 2023, Broadcom Software Group will be renamed and trade as VMware.
