Broadcom recently announced significant updates to VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) in response to concerns about costs and support. These updates aim to support digital innovation by enhancing infrastructure modernization, developer productivity, and cyber resilience and security. The new VCF import feature accelerates VCF adoption, improving time to value. The latest VCF update introduces a new feature that integrates existing vSphere and vSAN environments with VMware Cloud Foundation, centralizing management and optimizing resources without a complete rebuild. Additionally, VCF offers full support for vSAN Max and vSAN ESA Stretched clusters, providing petabyte-scale storage and active-active availability.

VCF also simplifies application deployment and management with quick-start templates, easy network integration, and advanced performance insights, enabling faster time to market and increased developer productivity. Tanzu Kubernetes Grid (TKG) and VCF network extensions provide rapid setup and configuration, along with transitioning to advanced NSX Virtual Network. Updates to VCF and associated add-ons enhance private cloud integrity, availability, network performance, and prevent malware/ransomware attacks. New features like ESXi Live Patching and VCF component upgrades improve system reliability and patch management.

Furthermore, the updates to VMware vSphere Foundation address evolving IT needs, supporting AI/ML applications, developer requirements, and security threats. New features include ESXi Live Patching, self-service infrastructure access for developers, Tanzu Kubernetes Grid Service, simplified administration, and improved end-user experience and security with single sign-on for all product components. VMware Cloud Foundation 5.2 and VMware vSphere Foundation 5.2 are expected to be available from Broadcom in the third quarter of fiscal 2024. These updates aim to enhance digital innovation, improve infrastructure modernization, developer productivity, and cyber resilience and security while reducing total cost of ownership for customers.
