Broadcom and Google Cloud partner to update VMware licensing structure.

Broadcom and Google Cloud have teamed up to enable license portability from VMware Cloud Foundation to Google Cloud VMware Engine, offering customers greater flexibility. This collaboration allows customers who purchased VMware Cloud Foundation software through Broadcom to use their subscriptions on Google Cloud VMware Engine and on their own on-premises data centers. New customers also have the option to purchase a fully integrated Google Cloud VMware Engine environment directly from Google.

The goal of this partnership is to enhance the customer experience by simplifying infrastructure, making it easier for customers to migrate virtual machines and workloads to Google Cloud and access Google’s network architecture. By running VMware Cloud Foundation on Google Cloud VMware Engine, customers can benefit from a cloud operating model that combines the scalability and agility of a public cloud with the security and performance of a private cloud.

The collaboration also aims to streamline operations through a unified Google Cloud experience that provides integrated identity and access management (IAM) and allows for rapid self-service deployments. Organizations can scale workloads to Google Cloud and pay only for the resources used, leading to reduced operational costs. Additionally, customers can leverage Google Cloud’s data insights capabilities, powered by AI and machine learning applications.

Mark Lohmeyer, vice president and general manager of compute and ML infrastructure at Google Cloud, emphasized the company’s commitment to simplifying and cost-effectiveness for customers’ cloud migration and digital transformation initiatives. Google Cloud VMware Engine offers benefits such as 99.99% cluster-level availability, integrated networking, and a unified Google experience, along with access to a full portfolio of Google Cloud services in AI/ML, data analytics, security, and more.

The collaboration between Broadcom, Google Cloud, and VMware is expected to be publicly available in the second quarter of 2024. This partnership represents a significant step in providing customers with increased flexibility, cost savings, and streamlined operations when it comes to managing their cloud resources and workloads.
