The UK Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) has begun an investigation into the planned acquisition of Juniper Networks by Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE), which was announced in January for $14 billion. This initial stage of the investigation, which was revealed on Wednesday, will seek to determine if the merger could potentially harm competition in the British market for goods and services.

However, the overlap between their businesses and product lines could complicate the deal, with analysts at Dell’Oro suggesting that the merger could have minimal effects on enterprise market share in the short term, estimating a revenue overlap of up to 24% during the initial three quarters of 2023.
HPE’s CEO, Antonio Neri, has emphasized the benefits of the merger, such as the potential to double HPE’s networking business and provide customers with a strong new option.
